Thornhill Golf Club
Thornhill Golf Club - Thornhill
Just a mile north of the hotel, a very attractive layout set in beautiful Mid-Nithsdale -a mixture of parkland and heathland with spectacular views of the Southern Uplands. It really is worth walking the course for the scenery alone. At 6085 yards it offers a challenge to both high handicappers and scratch golfers alike. This is a real gem and should be on everyone's list - if not for the views, for the quality of the putting surfaces. It's the kind of course to play on a summer's evening with a hazy light over the Nith Valley.

A pleasant parkland, wooded and reasonably flat - this represents 18 challenging holes set in lovely rolling countryside. The greens and fairways are kept in immaculate condition - you will enjoy your golf here. A good test for the club golfer.

Bordered on one side by the river Nith, it offers spectacular views of the Nith valley and surrounding countryside. The USGA standard greens are almost the best in the area. View from 11th Tee at Powfoot Golf Club
Powfoot Golf Club - Powfoot, near Annan
This course was founded in 1903, designed by James Braid and ranked among the best, yet remains utterly unspoilt and worthy of "the best kept secret". The first nine holes present a stiff links test and the final nine encompass a mixture of links and heathland, with whins and rough ensuring the challenge continues to the end. The course presents some breathtaking views over The Solway Firth to the North Lakes Mountains and the hills adjacent to Dumfries.
