The River Nith runs through the heart of the valley with the Southern Uplands to the north & the dramatic Solway Coast to the south. It is a place of quiet country roads ideal for exploring on foot or by bicycle.

Attractions include the flamboyant Drumlanrig castle still the seat of the dukes of Buccleuch and Queensbury with its famous art collection and gardens, Glenkiln sculpture park with it's collection of sculptures in a beautiful natural setting, Wanlock head railway, the highest in Scotland and Ellisland farm the former home of Burns.
