Walkers can explore the heritage of the covenanters, seventeenth century Protestants outlawed by King Charles II, by following routes that start from the Hotel grounds. The covenanters graveyard is a three and a half mile circular walk or for the more adventurous Chrichope Linn is a six and a half mile walk through a dramatic sandstone gorge used by the covenanters as an escape route from King James army. Walking holidays Scotland - all about  exploring the wild hills, and  the Dalveen pass just ten minutes drive has striking scenery and a dramatic walk to the summit of Lowther Hill and Wanlockhead.

 

Also the Southern Upland Way can be reached by a short journey to Penpont for two circular walks which take in the beautiful scenery of the southern uplands.
